Social Media Slant – Social media from a human perspective

Guest post: The guide to social networking etiquette (infographic)

The following is a guest post by Jennifer Landry. Her bio is at the end of the article.

Don’t talk with your mouth full. Make eye contact when speaking to people. You might have heard these types of etiquette rules growing up and follow them to this day. While these types of social etiquette rules have been drilled into our brains from a young age, the digital era has brought on new ones associated with social media.

For individuals, the rules might be a bit more lenient as people use these platforms for different reasons such as airing grievances or posting funny and/or inappropriate pictures. Businesses, on the other hand, are held to a much higher standard. If you’re like many other companies you likely have multiple social profiles. But did you know that each different network requires slight tweaks to your interactions? Do you know the social media etiquette rules that will help gain and retain followers? If not, don’t worry, these are unspoken rules and only become apparent after plenty of failed attempts. The good news is that it’s never too late to start following these tips.

Below, you will find helpful hints on what, when and how to post your updates and content to different social media sites via a helpful infographic. Of course the most important aspect of all social networks is to engage your audience and have meaningful conversations.
