Social Media Slant – Social media from a human perspective

Want to know if you can legally use Google Images?

This feature has existed for a long time but used to be hidden. Now, all you have to do when you look for pictures is click ‘Search tools’ and ‘Usage rights’, and then choose the option that applies in the drop-down menu:

  • not filtered by license
  • labeled for reuse
  • labeled for commercial reuse
  • labeled for reuse with modification
  • labeled for commercial reuse with modification

According to 9to5 Google, it’s not clear how Google identifies permissions. So, make sure you read the fine print or contact photographers before using pictures. And do not forget to always give credit where credit is due and link to sources.
