Social Media Slant – Social media from a human perspective

Begin your Google searches with images

A while ago, Google quietly added a new feature to its search arsenal.

Search by Image allows you to use pictures rather than keywords when looking for something. The results page typically displays:

  • Links to where the picture can be found
  • More info on that image
  • Visually similar images

Search by Image is located at http://images.google.com and at the top of your Google Search page (“Images”). All you have to do is click the camera icon in the search box and follow instructions.

You can also install the browser extension for Chrome or Firefox, which allows you to right-click on an image to initiate a search.

When you search by image, your results will look different than your normal Images or Web results page. The biggest difference is that your results can include non-image results like webpages that seem relevant to the image that you searched for.
